CFP: 2023 North American Society for Intelligence History (NASIH) Conference

Deadline extended to 9 January 2023 — Call for Papers: North American Society for Intelligence History Annual Conference
University of Calgary, July 20-23, 2023

The North American Society for Intelligence History (NASIH) is pleased to announce a call for papers for its third conference to be held at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, July 20-23, 2023.

NASIH is a leading forum for the advancement of intelligence history and intelligence studies in North America and beyond. The annual conference provides a setting for exchange between intelligence scholars, practitioners, and students from around the world.

For the 2023 conference, the Program Committee welcomes paper and panel proposals relating all aspects of intelligence history from around the globe and of all periods. We especially encourage proposals pertaining to subjects outside the Anglosphere. Proposal topics may include but are not limited to cultural, social, or legal history of intelligence; popular culture and intelligence; non-state actors in intelligence history; SIGINT and cyber intelligence; economic and business intelligence; intelligence analysis; counterintelligence; the history of spies and espionage; covert operations; whistleblowers; or influence operations. We also welcome proposals on the craft of intelligence history, archives and declassifications, and teaching intelligence history.

NASIH values inclusion. The Society welcomes applications from female scholars and scholars from diverse backgrounds. Graduate students are particularly welcome to apply, and some scholarship support may be available for students.

The Society is accepting proposals for panels, roundtables, individual papers, and chairs/discussants. Submissions of pre-organized panels and roundtables are highly encouraged but not required.

Full details on the submission guidelines and further information available online at https://www.intelligencehistory.org/conference.

Proposals must be received no later than 9 December 2022 9 January 2023 (deadline extended). The Program Committee intends to inform applicants of results by late January 2023.

Every person proposing a paper or participating in the conference must be a NASIH member as of the date of the proposal. The Society’s membership page is here. To ensure the broadest possible participation of the membership, no NASIH member will be assigned to more than two panels during the conference (one paper and one chair/discussant role or two chair/discussant roles).
