Publication of New Documents on Canadian External Relations Volume

The Historical Section of Global Affairs Canada (GAC) is pleased to announce the publication of a new volume in the Documents on Canadian External Relations (DCER) series, GAC’s flagship historical research project.

The volume marks the reorientation of DCER from a mainly chronological series to a new thematic one that will focus on major topics in greater depth and over a longer period than was previously possible. Entitled “The Vietnam War: 1963–1968”, the book documents Canada’s diplomatic response to one of the defining events of the twentieth century, offering a window on Canada’s Cold War, its relations with the United States, and its early role in the Indo-Pacific region, among other important topics.

A print edition of the volume will be available through Canadian academic libraries. It can also be consulted online through the GAC Digital Library.

A launch for the volume will be held in the fall at the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History at the University of Toronto.

A second volume on Vietnam, covering the 1968–1973 period, will be released next year.

Published since 1967, the DCER series promotes a deeper public understanding of the history of Canadian diplomacy by serving as a valuable research resource and teaching tool.

Publication d’un nouveau volume des Documents relatifs aux relations extérieures du Canada

La Section historique d’Affaires mondiales Canada (AMC) a le plaisir d’annoncer la publication d’un nouveau volume des Documents relatifs aux relations extérieures du Canada, le projet phare de recherche historique d’AMC.

Cet ouvrage marque un tournant dans cette série en adoptant une nouvelle approche thématique, au lieu de s’attacher à remonter le fil de l’histoire de manière chronologique, ce qui permet de traiter de grands sujets plus en détail et sur une plus longue période qu’auparavant. Intitulé « La guerre du Vietnam, 1963-1968 », il relate la réponse diplomatique du Canada à l’un des événements marquants du XX^e siècle, en plus d’aborder d’autres sujets importants, comme ses efforts pendant la guerre froide, ses relations avec les États-Unis et son rôle, dès cette époque, dans la région indo-pacifique.

Il sera possible de le consulter dans sa version imprimée, dans les bibliothèques universitaires canadiennes, et en ligne, dans la Bibliothèque numérique d’AMC.

Son lancement aura lieu cet automne au Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History de l’Université de Toronto.

Un deuxième volume sur la guerre du Vietnam abordant la période de 1968 à 1973 sera publié l’an prochain.
